Nanoengineering Major, General Biology Minor
Experience
I am an undergraduate student at UC San Diego majoring in Nanoengineering and minoring in general biology. Engineering and Science classes are typically the hardest for college students, but I have always enjoyed uncovering the logic that governs them which allows for true learning, and helping others to do the same. Though I excelled in high school, I did find the initial transition into college level academics challenging. As a result, I spent extra time not only studying my classes, but figuring out more efficient methods of learning and time management. I am now no longer afraid of any class offered at UC San Diego because I've learned how to learn. I want to be a tutor because I want to impart the skill of learning. I know that I enjoyed high school because learning came naturally then, and I started to really realize all the opportunities college has to offer when I figured out how to tackle college academics. I have been tutoring/teaching all my life, whether through helping out family members with their school work, my classmates and friends with college classes, or even summarizing published research to graduate students. Being a nanoengineering major and general biology minor, I specialize in STEM classes, whether biology, chemistry, physics, caluclus, or more advanced engineering classes. However, because of my general education requirements, I have also taken a fair bit of social science classes including humanities, political science, and economics that I am fully confident in tutoring in. I believe in teaching students how to learn: what are the concepts behind the questions and what are specific questions attempting to teach? This approach allows for real understanding of the subject, as well as excellent preparation for exams.
